Star Citizen 4.0 Live Schedule — Inside the Server Mesh Architecture
Dynamic server meshing in Q2, persistent universe migration in Q3. The mesh is the engineering credibility test that has been pending for three years.
Cloud Imperium published a binding 4.0 schedule for the live universe: dynamic server meshing rolls out in Q2, persistent universe migration completes in Q3, and the planetary tech stack lands across all systems by year-end. Squadron 42 remains a 2027 single-player release.
The mesh is the credibility test. CIG has been demoing 1000-player shards for two years; this is the patch that has to put it in front of paying users at scale. The architecture relies on a custom replication layer with deterministic authoritative-ownership handoff between shards — sounds clean in a slide, brutal to ship at 1000-concurrent scale.
If it ships clean, the funding pace gets a fresh leg up; if it slips a third time, the Q4 commercial number gets ugly. The modular item framework that landed in 3.24 keeps the door open for wallet-bound ship insurance.
