Ubisoft Q1 — The Assassin Creed Quarter That Mattered
AC Shadows over-delivered, the back catalog is finally working, and the activist investor is quiet for now.
Ubisoft Q1 print: Assassin Creed Shadows shipped 4.8M units sell-through, ahead of the 4.0M sell-side consensus and well ahead of the conservative 3.2M reset management gave at year-end. The launch was clean enough that the activist conversation around the company has gone quiet for the first time in three quarters.
Back catalog economics changed. Year-3 revenue from the Far Cry and AC libraries is up 28% YoY, driven by Game Pass and PS Plus distribution rev-share. That is structural margin Ubisoft did not have when it was shipping new $70 packs every six months.
The next test is XDefiant Season 4 retention and the AC Shadows post-launch DLC attach rate. Both land before the Q3 print, and both are needed to justify the FY26 guide raise.
